Protein Supplement Issues - Introducing Lectins and the Roles They Play in Your Health

As I have said before, I believe that the protein found in egg whites is the best protein to use as the source of your protein supplement. The reasons are fairly straightforward and are also pretty common knowledge.
The advantages of egg white protein stem from the following facts: the perfect amino acid composition for human nutrition, no fat, no carbs, easily digested and with great bioavailability. You could also add that they are very easy to add to different recipes and that their bland taste means that you can make them taste like anything you want.
There are also some benefits that stem from their lack of negative effects. Lectins, a class of proteins with allergenic properties, are found in all protein containing foods and have a more profound effect on health that most people realize. Unlike many other protein sources, the lectins in egg whites have no negative repercussions on health.
Whey and casein on the other hand, although able to cause some of their own allergic problems, contain lectins that are fairly problematic to a large percentage of people. The research that shows the truth of these claims is fairly complex and, luckily, quite old. You can find testimonials of people who have used these sorts of dietary modifications and that have reported their subjective improvements - thus backing what has been proven in the lab.
One thing to note is that lectin intolerances are different from classical allergic reactions.
For example, egg allergy, which manifests itself more commonly as a reaction to egg whites rather than egg yolks, is a fairly low occurrence problem. Most people that manifest any problems with eggs usually outgrow them by the age of five.
Unfortunately, even many informed people are not aware of the importance of lectin consumption on their health. This is why I am trying to stimulate discussion on the subject and hopefully bring more awareness to it.
The protein supplement you use contains lectins from the protein source from which it was produced. Not only that, but these lectins are concentrated, magnifying their ill effects.
One thing that I have noticed again and again is the propensity for a swollen midsection that is found in modern day bodybuilders. I believe that this is mainly due to consuming vast amounts of problematic lectins - especially those found in casein and whey containing protein supplements. I believe these irritate their digestive tracts and cause them to swell. This is not a problem of fat, but is a problem of inflammation. Inflammation caused by the consumption of problematic foods.
There is such a thing as egg allergy, but this is different from the allergenic properties of lectins.
