Acai Berry Strengthens Immune System - Myth Or Reality?

The little Amazonian berry has recently stolen the thunder from other fruit. Multiple claims have been made about its miracle qualities. In my previous articles we busted the myth of acai as a weight loss miracle and proved that acai berry can be an anti-aging cure. Now we will review whether taking acai berry can strengthen your immune system. So let us examine the main components in acai that can determine whether this claim is a myth of reality.
Fibre. Acai berry is rich in dietary fibre which is a plant cell-wall material. Recent scientific studies showed that high content of fibre in our diet increases our immunity. How? Our stomach is one of the most important components of our immune system as it filters out the infections that enter via the mouth. When dietary fibre reaches our stomach it increases the amount of immune cells in it and the overall digestive system.
Polyphenols. Acai contains polyphenols - compounds responsible for its colour and its high antioxidant capacity. Studies showed that after consuming food supplements high in polyphenols the immune system of the subjects was enhanced greatly. The responsiveness of the immune system also increased as a result of the polyphenols.
Resveratrol. Acai berries contain another strong antioxidant called resveratrol. It has been proven that resveratrol stops inflammations in our body and normalises the immune system. The greatest cause of inflammation is the overproduction of free radicals and shortage of antioxidants that balance them out. Taking antioxidant rich foods like acai therefore stops the inflammation and enhances the immune status. To summarise: the elements found in acai berries - dietary fibre, polyphenols and resveratrol were shown to strengthen our immunity through multiple scientific studies. Taking acai berries will bring other significant health benefits, like preventing chronic diseases, slowing down the effects of aging, boosting brain activity and more.
